I also like the dark wood floors. We iroko floor in our last house and loved it. It was easy to maintain and clean. I would only use the vacuum cleaner and wash with soap Murphy oil. It was much easier and faster to suck the carpet and hygienic.
Wood floors are beautiful and rich, but look at the things that make them appear to be a room darker when you have daylight and canned lighting is not enough that you should be OK, it's a matter of personal taste .
